Healthy babies are more likely to grow into healthy kids, which is why proper prenatal care and nutrition are the foundation of a healthy life. The Gujral Community Fund helps keep families in the City by contributing to organizations that support access to proper prenatal care and parenting education. Many San Francisco families are struggling to meet their basic needs, making it difficult to provide safe and supportive home environments in which kids can thrive.
Breaking the cycle of poverty requires resources, devoted caseworkers, and most importantly, the commitment and determination on the part of the individual, which is often difficult to harness when the person is dealing with so many competing issues, including mental health, homelessness, poverty, hunger, drug addiction, abuse, and more. There is a window that often opens during a time of pregnancy, when mothers realize the desire to improve their lives for their children and recognize that they need assistance to do so.
The Gujral family have been supporters of the Homeless Prenatal Program (HPP) since 2014, contributing to their fundraising efforts in support of their mission to break the cycle of childhood poverty. HPP works to fulfill their mission “by seizing the motivational opportunity created by pregnancy and parenthood, [and] joins with families to help them recognize their strengths and trust in their capacity to transform their lives.”
Mothers are empowered to believe in their own abilities and recognize their own ability to transform their lives and the lives of their families. Many of the staff at HPP are former assistance recipients, so the program is uniquely focused on the needs of those it serves.
